Toddler 18-24 months,Educational Toys
Your child is moving our of the toddler stage and into the young child stage. Walking is easy now so the next logical step is running.
Your child is going to be a possessive one and a half- two year old. He/she will prefer to play with older children and no, your child will not want to share his/her toys!
Active games will excite your child, games like ring-around-a-rosy, London bridge is falling down, and tag are all great interactive games. Your child will develop more gross motor skills without even knowing it.what a great way to learn.
Bubbles are still a great way to spend time with your child. Many of child's skills get worked in this fun time (including fine and gross motor, sensory, and problem solving skills).
Music is a wonderful thing so sing with your child and play songs on musical instruments or on the radio. Introduce some different musical instruments to your child, for example; ice cream buckets or miniature keyboards. Begin teaching your child the alphabet song. This is a song that will be around for this rest of your child's life!
Art is a huge part of life so keep encouraging interest in it. An easel would be a good way to do this. You can hang paper and let the child use crayons and paint, (paint only if you are watching). Foot painting is a fun way to spend an afternoon with your child too.
Play dough is an excellent way to develop your child's architecture streak. Take a look at the fine motor skills article to what various things you can do with play dough to help develop you child's body.
There are many other ideas for you child to have fun; sandbox, growing a garden, having a quiet time instead of napping. Many things will depend on the personality of your child. So use what works best!
Toy distributors or makers will communicate to the buyer what skills are enhanced through a certain toy. A few should have a chart that lists which toys help expand a particular skill(s) and/or learning styles.
Try the below link for toys that may help develop skills and learning styles. Also below are some suggestions for toys and games. Toys and games for 6months previously are listed as well.
